Ph.D. Required Courses
Because each student creates an individual study plan with his or her advisor, there are no specific course requirements for Ph.D. majors.
Ph.D. students must, however, take the following seminars/courses to satisfy the core requirement:
- Graduate professional seminar (“prosem”) (4 semesters; 8 credits)
- Research methodology (2-3 credits), called “Theory-to-Practice”
- Grant writing (2-3 credits)
- Teaching methods (1 credit or audit)

MOTOR SPEECH DISORDERS/AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION. 4 cr. The nature and classification of motor speech disorders, and techniques and methods which provide non-speaking children and adults with effective means of interaction and communication.

MANAGEMENT AND ASSESSMENT OF VOICE DISORDERS. 3 cr. Techniques applicable to children and adults with disorders of voice, both functional and organic in origin. Lecture plus lab or observation.

SWALLOWING DISORDERS. 0 cr. Presents information on the anatomy, physiology, and neural bases of normal swallowing, the various diseases that can affect swallowing function, the nature of swallowing dysfunction and ways to assess it, and treatment options for patients with swallowing disorders.

To prepare a proposal for independent study, you must complete the Proposal for Registration in Independent Study form. Following completion of the independent study, the instructor completes the Report on Independent Study form.
